How to End Your Tenancy
We understand that from time to time, there may be reasons why you need to end your tenancy with us. Before this can happen, we will need to discuss your notice period and any rent that needs to be settled before your tenancy can end.
There are a number of factors we need to take into account before we can end your tenancy and to help you understand more about the process, we have put together a selection of questions and answers to help you.
This is a fairly simple process to follow, however as your tenancy agreement is a legally binding document, you need to notify us that you wish to end your tenancy. Read through the rest of the questions below to find out in more detail the process and what you need to do to notify us.
Once you have notified us that you wish to end your tenancy with us, we will send you an ‘End of Tenancy’ pack. This pack will include important documents such as a ‘Notice to End a Tenancy’ form which needs to be completed, signed, and returned to us, to allow us to legally end your tenancy. We can talk you through the process once you notify us of your intent to end your tenancy.
Simply log on to your online customer account to notify us that you wish to end your tenancy, alternatively, please call our customer service hub on 0345 305 5335 to discuss.
Your notice period really depends on the type of tenancy you have with us. You may have a weekly or monthly tenancy with us. This is easy for us to find out and to make sure you don’t leave yourself open to additional charges, it is always worth checking with us first.
Typically, if you have a weekly tenancy, you will be required to give us a minimum of 28 days’ notice. If you have a monthly tenancy, you will be required to give us at least one months’ notice to end your tenancy with us. All notice periods must start on a Monday, and if you give notice on a day which isn’t a Monday, your notice period will start from the following Monday.
If you log on to your online account in our customer portal, you will be able to see which type of tenancy agreement you have. Alternatively, please call our customer service hub on 0345 305 5335 to discuss.
Firstly, it is always best to speak to us in this situation to see how we can help. Only the person who is named on the tenancy agreement or someone who is acting on behalf of that person (who has lasting Power of Attorney) is legally able to end a tenancy. Please call a member of our customer service hub on 0345 305 5335 to discuss in more detail.
