Frank’s story – Giving back to SSAFA
We recently interviewed Frank, a veteran who lives at a Johnnie Johnson Housing property in Greater Manchester. Frank is taking part in a skydive at the age of 83 and shared with us his story and how delighted he is to be part of this initiative and raise funds for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.
I was homeless, sleeping in my car. I then approached SSAFA, the armed forces charity and they were in touch with Johnnie Johnson Housing and I was given accommodation.
SSAFA has been supporting members of the Armed Forces community since 1885 and provides social care and housing with the help of housing associations such as Johnnie Johnson Housing. Many veterans and people who have received support from SSAFA throughout the years choose to give back to the charity by raising money and awareness. Frank’s journey is a testament to the power of community support and the life-changing impact of charities like SSAFA.
It was important that I give back what I received and I started raising funds for SSAFA. I’ve been doing it for 11 years.
The skydive will be taking place on 3 May 2024 and 15 inspirational individuals, including Frank, will be taking on the challenge with the target to raise approximately £650 per person. Frank has received an exceptional support from friends and other JJH residents and is inviting more people to support this initiative.
Help as much as you can because this one, this skydive is my big one, probably be my last one. So…sponsor me and let it all go to providing funds. Funds badly needed for the military family.
