Managed Migration Update – May 2024
Benefit claimants are receiving a migration notice by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Managed migration involves claimants being sent a migration notice by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to inform them that their legacy benefit awards will end and therefore must make a claim for Universal Credit to continue to get support. If you have received a migration notice you should claim Universal Credit by the deadline on the letter.
To avoid reduction in benefits, Transitional Protection is available to those whose claims might be reduced on Universal Credit.
Latest updates
Rishi Sunak and DWP has announced the turnaround on the Managed Migration to UC of those on ESA(IR), with or without Housing Benefit. The Government previously said this group of claimants would not be subject to Managed Migration until 2028/29. The plan is now to send all managed migration notices out by the end of December 2025.
- Claimants receiving Income Related – Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) (or IR-ESA and Housing Benefits) will start to receive Migration Notices later in 2024
- Claimants receiving IR-ESA and Tax Credits (and HB) will receive Migration Notices between July and September 2024.
