Our resident Tessa celebrates her 103rd birthday
Long-standing resident of Mitchell House in Gatley, Cheshire, celebrated her 103rd birthday surrounded by fellow residents in their communal lounge.
Tessa’s 100th birthday happened during the pandemic and therefore a fitting celebration couldn’t take place at the time. This year her friends and neighbours were only too happy to make an extra special fuss of energetic Tessa this time around.
Walking into a room full of well-wishers, Tessa was visibly very moved: “I am so lucky – this is wonderful….” and after she was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers by Chief Executive Officer, Yvonne Castle she said “I’ve been absolutely spoiled – thank you so much”. Tessa was also given gifts, flowers, a personalised cake and cards from further members of the Johnnie Johnson Housing team before being treated to a fantastic presentation on the TV screen, of photos and videos from over the years. The presentation was put together by fellow resident Frank Boulton, who has been embracing digital technology and teaching himself how to digitise his photos.
Tessa’s daughter, Jean, who also lives nearby told us her mother has loved living at Mitchell House, having moved there from Levenshulme with her late husband in 2004:
“They settled really well here and made some wonderful friends. The location is perfect and the gardens are beautiful.”
Mitchell House is a secure and relaxed development for people 55 and over. It is situated on a quiet street in Gatley, close to the M60 and M56 motorway networks and is named after Reginald J Mitchell who was the designer of the spitfire. The development has 50 flats including 36 one-bedroom flats, 13 studio flats and one two-bedroom flat across three floors which can be accessed by a lift or stairs.
