Renew your tax credits by 31 July – What you need to do
Did you receive a renewal pack from HMRC between 2 May and 15 June 2023? If so, act before 31 July to make sure you do not lose your tax credits!
Read on to find out more:
Do I need to act?
Whether you need to act will depend on which pack you received:
- ‘Reply now’ pack – a red line across the first page and the words ‘reply now’. You need to confirm your circumstances to renew your tax credits – changes in circumstances may include changes to living arrangements, childcare, income or working hours.
- ‘Check now’ pack – a black line across the first page and the words ‘check now.’ If your details are correct you do not need to do anything – your tax credits will be automatically renewed.
How to renew your tax credits by 31 July
The government webpage gives you all the information you need to make your tax credit renewal. You don’t need to call anyone – simply renew online or download the HMRC App to quickly renew your tax credits. HMRC has also released a video to explain how tax credits customers can use the HMRC app to view, manage and update their details.
Universal Credit replaces tax credits by the end of 2024
By the end of 2024, tax credits will be replaced by Universal Credit. Customers who receive tax credits will receive a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) telling them when to claim Universal Credit. Make sure you claim by the deadline given in your letter – your tax credits will end even if you decide not to claim Universal Credit.
