Housing Association Tenancy Transfer
As a Johnnie Johnson Housing customer, you can apply to move to another one of our homes. If you'd like to apply to transfer to another home, here is all the information you need to make a decision about whether it's right for you, what the process is, and if you're eligible.
As a Johnnie Johnson Housing customer, you can apply to move to another one of our homes with housing association tenancy transfer. In the first instance, it would be a good idea to speak to your Neighbourhood Housing Officer or Independent Living Coordinator, and they can discuss your situation with you.
Following discussions, if you still wish to transfer to another one of our homes, you will need to have an up-to-date rent account (not showing any arrears). You will have not previously broken any conditions of your tenancy agreement.
As we’re sure you can appreciate, this process does take a little time and customers are prioritised due to their housing needs. Our team will be able to discuss the entire process with you in more detail, but to help you initially, we have put together a number of questions and answers below about the process.
The process of transferring homes to another of our homes depends on a number of factors, such as you have an up-to-date rent account and no previous history of breaching any conditions associated with your tenancy agreement.
We also need to find a home which is right for you needs and current circumstances, which takes a little bit of time to arrange. In the first instance, please speak to your Neighbourhood Housing Officer or Independent Living Coordinator to discuss your options further.
It is difficult for us to be able to put an exact timescale on a home transfer as it depends on many other factors. You should discuss this with your Neighbourhood Housing Officer or Independent Living Coordinator. Alternatively, you can speak to a member of our customer service hub on 0345 305 5335
The type of home you can move to depends on your current tenancy agreement and other criteria. You wouldn’t be able to move into one of our homes for those over 55 if you are under that age bracket, nor would you able to move from a one-bedroom apartment to a four-bed house, unless your circumstances allowed, e.g., a large family living in a one-bed apartment. We will go through all of your options with you, as well as talking you through the entire process.
Every Johnnie Johnson Housing customer who is a named customer on their tenancy agreement is eligible to move home, as long as you have an up-to-date rent account and have not previously broken any of the conditions outlined in your tenancy agreement.
As you can appreciate, the housing association tenancy transfer process can be a long one. We have to ensure your transfer is in the best interests of everyone involved. It is advisable to speak to your neighbourhood Housing Officer or Independent Living Coordinator in the first instance to chat it through with them.
